Vocabulary

Sediment- a small, soild piece of material that come from rocks or living things
Erosion- occurs wen running water or wind loosen and carry the fragments of rocks away
Deposition- the process which sediments settles out of the water or wind carrying it
Compaction- the process that squeezes sediments together
Cementation-the process which dissolved minerals crystallize and glue particles of sediments together
Clastic rock- a sedimentary rock that forms when rock fragments squeezed togethera
Organic rock- a sedimentary rock that forms where the remains of livig things are deposited in thick layers

Outline

From Sediment to Rocks

  • form from sediments moved by erosion
  • Erosion
    • 3 forces
      • wind
      • water
      • ice
  • Deposition
    • after sediment has been deposited, the processes of compaction and cementation change the sediment into sedimentary rock
